Thistle Golf Club in Sunset Beach, NC has quickly become one of the region’s finest courses, with 27 magnificent holes and extensive renovations including; Old World architecture, abundant landscape and wildlife surround the lakes, bridges and private homes, and a new clubhouse with an authentic Scottish pub that is sure to attract any golfer. Awarded 4.5 stars by Golf Digest’s “Places to Play” guide, the overall experience – from 12-minute tee times that put you on each hole by yourself, to flawless Bentgrass greens – is one that should not be overlooked. The signature hole on the South course at Thistle – No. 9, a 177-yard par 3 – really shows its links style with a green that sits above a giant mound with two deep pot bunkers in the front. Along the front and right side of the hole is a large pond that will surely rack some nerves, and the tee shot is uphill and typically against the wind. Thistle Golf Club director Dan Oschmann notes that “Normally I am not a fan of par threes as finishing holes, but I think this is one can hold its own with any of them … I would go so far as to say it will become one of the most famous holes in Myrtle Beach.”
